Dahlman, Schulte named to Bethel University dean’s list

Two Grand Marais students have achieved recognition on the fall 2009 semester dean’s list at Bethel University.

Kaari Dahlman,
daughter of Bruce and Kate Dahlman, is majoring in English Literature and Writing. Ahna Schulte,
daughter of Craig and Lynn Schulte, is an Elementary Education major.

The dean’s list honors students who achieve an outstanding scholastic record during a semester with a grade-point average of 3.6 or greater.

Bethel University, based in St. Paul, is a leader in Christ-centered higher education with approximately 6,300 students from 48 states and 29 countries enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, seminary, and adult education programs.

3 locals on UMD fall dean’s list

Three Cook County residents have been named to the fall 2009 semester dean’s list at the University of Minnesota Duluth.

To be recognized on the dean’s list, students must achieve a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.

Five local students recognized at St. Scholastica

The College of St. Scholastica has named 646 students to its fall semester 2009 dean’s list. Among them are five Cook County residents:

Jessica Nelson
of Grand Marais, a thirdyear nursing student. She is a 2007 graduate of Cook County High School and is the daughter of Tom and Patty Nelson of Grand Marais.

Tara Austin
of Grand Marais, a sophomore majoring in marketing. She is the daughter of Rick Austin and Lori Austin of Grand Marais, and is a 2009 graduate of Cook County High School.

Michelle Weitz,
Non-Degree, Humanities – Intended, 2009 Cook County High School graduate, daughter of Tim and Clara Weitz of Grand Marais.

Amy James,
a fifth-year undergraduate in the nursing program.

Benjamin Peters,
a junior, majoring in communication.

Students named to the dean’s list are fulltime undergraduates who have attained a grade-point average of 3.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Nelms graduates UW-Stout

Nicole Nelms,
of Hovland, graduated Cum Laude December 19, 2009 from University Wisconsin – Stout in Menomonie, Wisconsin. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with two majors—multimedia art and graphic design as well as a minor in photography.

Nicole is a 2005 graduate of Cook County High School and daughter of Eric and Dusty Nelms, of Hovland.

UW-Stout, Wisconsin’s Polytechnic University, is a special mission university in the UW System. The university has a long-standing reputation of serving business, industry, education and the helping professions through its specialized educational programs.

Cochrane, Lehto named to Macalester dean’s list

and Reed Lehto
have been named to the dean’s list of Macalester College for the fall 2009-2010 semester.

Maddy is the daughter of Tim and Jean Cochrane of Grand Marais. She is a graduate of Cook County High School, and is now a senior at Macalester.

Reed is the son of Donald and Karen Lehto of Grand Marais. He is a graduate of Cook County High School, and is also a senior at Macalester.

To be eligible for the dean’s list a student must have been registered as a full-time, degree-seeking student and may not have been on a study away program. Furthermore, a student must have achieved a semester grade point average of at least 3.75, 12 or more credits on a regular grading option, no grades below C-, and no withdrawal or incomplete grades for the semester. Grades for activity, practicum, and technique courses in dance, music, and physical education are not factored into eligibility for the dean’s list.

Lunde named to Luther College dean’s list

Erin Lunde
of Tofte has been named to the 2009 fall semester dean’s list at Luther College.

Lunde joins 230 other seniors who were recognized for their outstanding grade-point average. To be named to the dean’s list, a student must earn a semester grade-point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale and must complete at least 12 credit hours with 10 hours of conventional grades.

Jorgenson earns UWS degree

Anna Elise Jorgenson
of Grand Marais has earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. She is the daughter of Christy Buetow and Arleigh Jorgenson, both of Grand Marais, and is a 2001 graduate of Cook County High School.

Degrees were conferred by Chancellor Julius Erlenbach at the university’s winter commencement ceremony held Dec. 19, 2009.

UW-Superior is Wisconsin’s Leading Public Liberal Arts College, offering students academic challenge, solid career training and preparation to become lifelong learners.

Falk, Buckman earn Vermilion honors

Two Cook County students have achieved recognition on the fall 2009 dean’s list at Vermilion Community College in Ely.

Sasha Falk
of Grand Marais was named to the Honors list. She is a 2009 graduate of Cook County High School, and is the daughter of Sue and Mark Falk.

Mark Buckman
of Schroeder was named to the Highest Honors list. He is the son of Mark and Kathy Buckman, and is also a 2009 Cook County High School graduate.

Students must attain a semester GPA of 3.75 to earn placement on the Highest Honors list, 3.5 for placement on the High Honors list, and 3.0 for placement on the Honors list.
