Wieben named to dean’s list at St. Scholastica

Rachel Wieben of Grand Marais was named to the Fall 2013 dean’s list at The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth.

Dean’s list members have achieved a 3.75 grade point average or above on a 4.0 scale. Wieben is majoring in Nursing – Intended. The College of St. Scholastica commends Wieben for honorable academic achievements.

Rachel is a 2013 graduate of Cook County High School and is the daughter of Dave and Sheila Wieben of Grand Marais.

Sterling Anderson named to UMD dean’s list

Sterling Anderson of Grand Marais has been named to the fall semester 2013 dean’s list at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.

Sterling is a 2013 graduate of Cook County High School and is enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts. He is the son of Lorrie and Rob Svadlenka of Grand Marais, and Mike and Becky Anderson of Duluth.

Three local students earn Northwestern honors

Katrina Axtell, Trevor Delamater and Jackson Nickolay, students at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, have earned spots on the academic dean’s list for the fall 2013 semester.

The dean’s list is comprised of students who have achieved a semester grade point average of 3.50 or above while carrying a minimum of 12 graded hours. This semester, 395 students qualified for the dean’s list.

Axtell is a junior and a Spanish and biology health professions major at Northwestern College. She is the daughter of Treg and Denise Axtell of Hovland.

Delamater is a sophomore and a business administration major at Northwestern College. He is the son of Mark and Margaret Delamater of Lutsen.

Nickolay is a senior and a theater major at Northwestern College. He is the son of Michele Miller of Hovland and Tim Nickolay of Grand Marais.

Northwestern College is a Christian college of more than 1,200 students in Orange City, Iowa.

Local students earn Vermilion honors

Two local students have earned academic honors for the fall 2013 semester at Vermilion Community College in Ely.

Jason Hughes of Grand Marais was named to the list with honors, for a grade point average of 3.0 or better.

Jesse Johnson of Schroeder achieved high honors for a grade point average of 3.5 or better.

Founded in 1922, Vermilion Community College is a residential, comprehensive, community college where students from all walks of life come to be part of a family of learners.
