Baumann earns Business Administration degree

A Cook County student was among graduates of the University of Minnesota-Duluth who were recognized May 18, 2013 in commencement ceremonies at Amsoil Arena.

Zachary Baumann of Grand Marais earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.

Zach is a 2008 graduate of Cook County High School. He is the son of Teresa and Dan Baumann of Grand Marais.

Jacob Rude, Gavin Danfelt-Martin named to dean’s list

Two local students have been named to the 2013 spring semester dean’s list at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.

Jacob Rude of Grand Marais is enrolled in the College of Education/Human Development. He is a 2010 graduate of Cook County High School, and is the son of Brad and Sandi Rude of Grand Marais.

Gavin Danfelt-Martin of Hovland is a student in the College of Liberal Arts. Gavin graduated from Cook County High School in 2010, and is the son of Bob Martin and Virginia Danfelt of Hovland.

To qualify for the dean’s list, a student must complete 12 or more letter-graded credits while attaining a 3.66 grade point average.

Addie Gecas receives Chancellor’s Award

Addie Gecas of Grand Marais, received the Chancellor’s Award for the spring 2013 semester at University of Wisconsin-Stout.

Gecas is majoring in apparel design and development. She is the daughter of Greg and Barb Gecas of Grand Marais.

The award is presented to students who have a grade point average of 3.5 or above.

UW-Stout, Wisconsin’s Polytechnic University, is a special mission university in the UW System. The university has a long-standing reputation of serving business, industry, education and the helping professions through its specialized educational programs.

Enrollment this year was 9,200.

Nelson graduates from St. Scholastica

Kari Nelson of Grand Marais graduated from the College of St. Scholastica on May 12, 2013.

Nelson was among 589 students awarded a bachelor’s degree during spring commencement at Amsoil arena at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center in Duluth.

Nelson graduated cum laude with a GPA of 3.71 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in health sciences. Nelson is continuing her education at St. Scholastica, pursuing a Master of Science degree in occupational therapy.

Nelson was duly initiated as a member of the Gamma Omicron chapter of Pi Theta Epsilon occupational therapy honor society on the February 13, 2013. Nelson was also elected president of the St. Scholastica chapter of the student occupational therapy association by her peers. Kari is a 2009 graduate of Cook County High School and the daughter of Tom and Patty Nelson of Grand Marais.

The College of St. Scholastica is a private Catholic Benedictine school founded in Duluth in 1912. St. Scholastica is consistently ranked among the best colleges and university in the Midwest for academic excellence by U.S. News & World Report magazine. The Washington Post has rated St. Scholastica as one of the nation’s 100 “hidden gems” among U.S. colleges and universities.
