Nickolay awarded academic honor scholarship
Maria Nickolay, a home-schooled student, has been awarded an academic honor scholarship from Northwestern College, Orange City, Iowa, for the 2012–13 school year.
Nickolay is the recipient of the Collegiate Scholarship, which awards a minimum of $6,000 per year. She is the daughter of Michele Miller of Hovland.
Northwestern College is a Christian college in Orange City, Iowa, providing an education that combines academic rigor with a faith perspective.
Laky named to Trinity Christian College dean’s list
In recognition of outstanding academic achievement, Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Illinois has released its fall 2011 dean’s list. Among the students honored is Leah Laky of Grand Marais. She is the daughter of Mark and Laura Laky of Grand Marais. Leah is a 2009 graduate of Cook County High School.
To be named to the dean’s list, Trinity students must be enrolled full time and earn a minimum 3.5 grade point average.
UMD dean’s list announced
The University of Minnesota – Duluth (UMD) has announced its dean’s list for fall semester 2011. On that list are two Cook County students.
Micaella G. Kinzli of Grand Marais is a senior. She is enrolled in the international studies and geography programs at the College of Liberal Arts.
Ryan R. Martinson of Schroeder is a freshman, attending the College of Liberal Arts. His major is undeclared. Ryan is a 2011 graduate of Cook County High School. He is the son of Bruce and Sheryl Martinson of Schroeder.
Students on the UMD dean’s list have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
Puch named to Ausburg College’s deans list
Carly Puch of Grand Marais, an Augsburg College student, was named to the dean’s list for fall 2011 semester. The dean’s list, compiled after each semester, lists undergraduate full-time students whose grade point average for a semester is 3.50 or better. Carly is a 2010 graduate of Cook County High School. She is the daughter of Jean Mathis and Scott Puch, both of Grand Marais.
Augsburg College earned the highest federal honor available to colleges for its commitment to civic engagement, community service and service learning when it won the Presidential Award as part of the 2010 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. Augsburg is the first Minnesota school—and one of only six in the nation from a field of more than 850 applicants—to earn the award.
