Cold weather brings warm activities to Care Center





Children and staff from local preschools visited the North Shore Care Center on Halloween. Halloween at the Care Center includes the kids, residents, and the staff at the Care Center, Hospital, and Clinic. Halloween is all about the kids! Residents at North Shore Care Center sure had fun preparing for Halloween this year. Theyfilled 300 treat bags for the Community Center Halloween Party, made cupcakes for two pre-school groups, and set up more treats for the children who visited the Care Center on Halloween night. The jack-olanterns are now packed away and we’re starting to think about the holiday season.

November brings shorter days and more time indoors for craft projects and holiday baking. On Thanksgiving weekend we will once again welcome families and friends for a traditional turkey dinner.

There will be an old fashioned square dance on November 27 at 6:15 p.m. with The Arrowtipper square dance group. Thiswill be our third annual square dance, and community members are invited to join in the fun. We always need more helpers for the Virginia Reel dance with wheelchairs.

There will be a special Turkey Bingo Game with Walt Mianowski on Thursday, November 18 with a 10-pound turkey prize. Thekids from the After School Lounge Program will be at the Care Center for

Kids & Games” three times next month and will be doing their own version of Turkey Bingo.

The Grand Marais Lioness ladies will host a Pumpkin Pie Social for residents on Saturday, November 20 at 3 p.m. Irene Thompson will perform her old time favorites on the piano.

There are two birthdays to celebrate in November – Dorothe Vaughn and Bertha Toftey. Families and friends are invited to the monthly Birthday Party on Wednesday, November 10 with music presented by Susy Lindskog.

On Veterans Day, residents will attend a special luncheon at the American Legion. The veterans to be honored at the Care Center are Byron Whaley, Jack Halverson, and Ophelia Bassett. There will be another outing for holiday shopping and pie at Blue Water Café later in the month.

During this season of giving thanks, the residents at North Shore Care Center wish to express their gratitude to the staff and community volunteers for all that they do.
