Three Macalester standouts have been named to the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) all-conference soccer squad as selected by league coaches—one of them is Cook County’s own Maddy Cochrane,
a senior.
Her teammates, defender Maddie Mette, a senior from Burnsville, MN and forward Emily Bardwell, a junior from Denver, CO, also received all-conference honors. These three led Macalester to a thirdplace 7-3-1 conference mark and 13-5-2 overall record heading into this weekend’s national playoffs.
Mette and Cochrane are four-year starters for the Macalester Scots and both have played in all 77 Macalester matches since the start of the 2006 season. The Scots fell to Concordia-Moorhead on November 15 at Macalester Stadium in an NCAA Division III second-round playoff game as the Scots completed their season with a 14-6-3 record.
No. 8-ranked Concordia, the MIAC regular-season champs, improved to 18-0-2 and moved on to the Sweet 16, where they will play next weekend against Lynchburg, VA.
Maddy is majoring in Environmental Studies. A 2006 Cook County High School graduate, she is the daughter of Tim and Jean Cochrane of Grand Marais.
