The final statistics have been tallied for the Vikings’ 2017 seniors who helped lead the team to a third straight state volleyball tournament, and the numbers are impressive. Three seniors saw a lot of playing time, three not as much, but all were key to the Vikings incredible run.
Remember the “Sutton bombs?”
Meredith Sutton finished with 513 kills (bombs), 476 digs and had an equally impressive 88.9 serving performance with 44 ace serves.
Raina Ryden had 368 set assists, 365 digs, 57 ace serves, and a 95.7 serving percentage.
Abby Prom finished with 44 ace serves, 359 set assist, and had an incredible 98.0 percent of her serves land in the court.
Vikings head coach Pam Taylor had this to say about her seniors: . Meredith is going to UMD. She is an awesome all-around player. . Raina had a willingness to play where the team needed her to play and not just the position that was her passion. She was a great leader; she is still looking for a college to play at. . Abby worked hard all season on her setting so she would not get called for double hits at state. She knows the game well. . Hanna (Borson) finally got to play the libero position. Hanna worked hard all year. . Linnea (Gesch) was a good reserve for the middle. She really started to block and hit at the end of the season. . Jasmine (Smith) was the most improved overall player this year. Jasmine didn’t like passing, but she was getting really good at it by the end of the season. She also had a nice serve.
The Vikings finished the season with a 23-7 mark. They won the Polar League Conference title with a 10-0 mark in conference play. They also won their third straight Section 7A title and were 1-2 at the state tournament.
