Facing change in downtown Grand Marais. Top: A crew from Edwin E. Thoreson Inc. is working to take down and remove the refuse from the Cook County Whole Foods Co-op building. Once done, a construction crew will begin building a new co-op store with about twice as much room as the former structure. Above: On Sunday, November 3, Whole Foods Co-op volunteer Mike Carlson and artist/mural designer Kelly Dupre met with several co-op board members to discuss what could be done with the mural in light of the lack of funds raised to save the whole structure. What came from that meeting was to have workers cut images out of the wall and save them to be used later. Left: Concrete workers carefully mark where cuts will be made.
