Climate Change— Cook County Minnesota specific

On Black Friday, the “National Climate Assessment “ (NCA) was released. This document reported findings on US regional temperature, ocean, and carbon dioxide levels. Further, NCA provides dire predictions about future climate and national economy.

Actuaries in Canada and USA have developed a Climate Change (CCI) Index used to help price the climate component of property insurance premiums: residential, public, business, etc. CCI is based on data collected throughout North America: (1) frequency and (2) severity of climatic events.

Cook County MN, today, is currently scored with a nil CCI. Expect here more hard wood forest and rain. Expect here low CCI for some time. In contrast, CCI is increasing exponentially in many areas along the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.

For high school students of mathematics, actuaries developed standard deviations for geographic specific, climatic events during 1961-1990. CCI is computed as multiples of standard deviations during that period. To view the CCI and maps, Google “Society of Actuaries” and “Climate Index.”
