You might not recognize Clearview General Store if you haven’t been in there for a while. The new look is impressive as are the new offerings. Work that began last January is now completed at the Lutsen store; the space has doubled and the grocery store is greatly expanded.

Chris Homyak indicated that as much of the work as was possible was done by local contractors, and many items now sold are made by local artisans, growers and makers. They are hoping to add more as the summer moves along. The new space is also ADA accessible.

The entire former space was renovated. This includes new epoxy flooring, walls, a tongue-and-groove native birch ceiling, energy-efficient LED lighting, new coolers, new mechanical equipment, refrigeration equipment and shelving (some of it from the old Grand Marais Pharmacy). The Great Place Project helped fund outdoor picnic tables for Lutsen visitors to enjoy.

The Great Gifts store has moved to Grand Marais (1st Ave West near Wisconsin Street), and in its place Clearview General Store has added a complete selection of games, gifts, puzzles, pet supplies, craft supplies (for a rainy day) and a wide array of gently used and new books. The fishing tackle, bait and camping section is expanded to include Camp Chow and anything a camper forgot at home.

Some of the local items carried are wood products from The Wilder Workshop, Nice Enough stickers, Caribou Cream and Wild Country maple syrup, gift cards made by Kari Vick and Anna Hess, clothing from Up North Trading Company, pork products from Yker Acres (Carlton County, Minnsota) and more.

Chris Homyak said, “We will continue adding to our gifts, games, clothing, and groceries all summer. We are expanding our seasonal items as well. Before, we liked to say that ‘We have a little bit of everything.’ Now I truly feel we do have everything you need, and we are open to adding your suggestions to our selections. Stop by the store for all of your ‘Up North’ needs.”

Lake Superior is nearby, and nothing beats walking on the beach more than walking in sandals. Note the new and used books behind the sandals, great to pick up on a rainy day meant for reading.
