Cook County News Herald

Clarification

Regarding the October 15, 2011 article entitled Visitors Bureau branding Cook County “way north of ordinary”: The statement, “The national radio program Mountain Stage that recorded live during Unplugged brought national publicity, and it was free,” meant that the publicity was free. The Cook County Visitors Bureau (CCVB) spent staff time with North House Folk School to write grants that paid Mountain Stage to broadcast from the event.

Regarding the sentence, “Nankivell said those communities chose to do their own marketing” referring to why Schroeder and Hovland were not listed with Lutsen, Tofte, Grand Marais, Grand Portage, and the Gunflint Trail in an upcoming Minneapolis/St. Paul Magazine ad, CCVB Executive Director Nankivell told the News-Herald, “I know I would have not said that they chose to do their own marketing, because that is not true, and never has been. There are no hotels or resorts in Hovland, nor is there a tourism association in Hovland, but we do promote the entire county.”

The article also states that CCVB’s mailing list includes about 3,000 voluntarily submitted names. Its entire mailing list includes over 6,500 names, with some of its member associations having lists with up to 3,000 names.
