Members of the city’s planning commission will review a preliminary plat for a 21-acre planned unit development at their regularly scheduled meeting Jan. 4.
Known as “Uptown Grand Marais,” the proposal is being made by David Parsons for his property at 1800 W. Highway 61. Parsons is being joined in the enterprise by Tom Hansen of Epoch Companies and JPJ Engineering.
According to information submitted to the city, the development will include a combination of fractional unit cabin ownership, uptown community homes and commercial establishments. Site spaces will be as small as 300 to 600 square feet, with larger spaces available up to 16,000 square feet. In all, there will be 32 residential lots and 16 fractional ownership cabins.
In addition to ultimate approval from city council, the owners first need approval for a rezoning request (a portion of the C/I property would have to be changed to R-1 to allow for the PUD), a conditional use request, and a planned unit development. In addition, city water and sewer would have to be extended to accommodate the new lots.
The planning commission meeting begins at 4 p.m. at City Hall.
