Richard Sherry, frequent visitor to Grand Marais, sets his second political thriller in Grand Marais. Just look at that retired professor sitting in the Blue Water, having coffee. Suppose he’s about to strip away all the privacy of Supreme Court decisions? He might be.

Mondays, Mondays follows Sherry’s first novel about Dr. Ed Baker, a retired political science professor with a chip on his shoulder. In A Month of Sundays, Baker sends out to the public, once every week, emails to and from U.S. Senators and Representatives that no one thought they’d ever see. All the details with lobbyists, corporations, donors, and letters from the political parties. With the 2022 election on the horizon, some of them want to find out who and why.

In Mondays, Mondays, Baker, spending three seasons off Old Ski Hill Road, looking down at the Lake, writes up his results for publication—until he begins to wonder, “Why are so many lawyers caught up in political corruption? Aren’t they supposed to be the smart ones?” He still has a lot of email to sort from his first adventure and starts to look at the Justices of the Supreme Court. It turns out that not all of them are what they seem, and some have an agenda.

“Both books are as contemporary and as ‘real-time’ as I can make them,” Sherry commented. “The Court is the one part of our political system most of us don’t see, and this year has shown us that we need to be looking much more.”

Both books are at Drury Lane Books, on the harbor at 12 E. Wisconsin Street.

Dr. Richard Sherry, retired from Bethel University, has been a frequent visitor to Grand Marais and the Gunflint for thirty years. His first book, The Long Run, is a memoir on caring for his wife as her dementia developed. It is available on Amazon.
