Grand Marais City Council convened for a brief meeting Nov. 24 to pay the bills and approve a couple resolutions, a process which took less than five minutes.
Councilor Dave Mills presided over the meeting, which was attended by councilors Anton Moody and Tracy Benson; Mayor Jay Arrowsmith DeCoux and Councilor Tim Kennedy were absent.
Items on the consent agenda that were approved unanimously included payment of bills; approval of a resolution to increase the benefit amount for the city’s volunteer firefighters from $1,250 per year of service to $1,500 per year of service upon retirement; and approval of a resolution for a grant agreement with the state Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) needed for acceptance of a $250,000 infrastructure grant to fund a portion of the hospital project.
Finally, council approved a number of bids for equipment rental submitted by Edwin E. Thoreson Inc. of Grand Marais to provide snow removal services (loading and hauling) in the downtown business district when necessary during the upcoming winter.
