With the employee contract running out at the end of 2022, the city bargaining unit met with American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) representatives. At that meeting, both sides reached a tentative agreement on a three-year contract, passed by resolution at the council’s January 25, 2023, meeting.
The new contract calls for a three-year term where workers will receive a cost of living adjustment of 8 percent, 4 percent, and 3 percent for 2023-2025 retroactive to January 1, 2023.
Additionally, employees received a one-time wage of $350.
Under the contract terms, part-time workers will receive four hours of paid holiday for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and pay raises will be calculated based on the hire date rather than hours worked.
Linemen will receive 14 hours of regular pay for one week of standby duty.
When setting this year’s budget, the city council factored in more significant cost-of-living increases because of inflation and to stay competitive with other local entities.
Council also approved eight percent cost of living raises for non-union workers for 2023.
