The 2018 Citizen of the Year Award was presented to Frankie Jarchow, a Grand Marais resident for the past 28 years.

Jarchow is extremely active in our community and received rave reviews in the multiple nomination letters read aloud to the crowd.

Since putting down roots, Frankie has worked to give back to Grand Marais. She serves on several local boards and committees including: The Active Living Steering Committee, Safe Routes to School Committee, Public Health and Human Services Advisory Board, Carlton-Cook- Lake-St. Louis County Health Board and the Cook County Community Center Board of Trustees. Additionally, she is a committee member and leader of the Garden Club.

This past year Frankie served as an active member of the Highway 61 Steering Committee and single handedly got the Minnesota Department of Transportation to change its plans to improve pedestrian safety in Grand Marais.

Somehow, between attending all her meetings, Jarchow finds the time to go to the YMCA and squeeze in a little bridge.
