Christopher James Steel





 

 

Christopher James Steel, age 30, of Apple Valley passed away on Dec. 18, 2017.

Chris was an avid outdoorsman, and loved snowmobiling in the mountains. He was born in Cook County, and attended Cook County High School until moving to Duluth where he attended Denfeld High School until his graduation, and in 2016 Chris earned his associate degree from the University of Phoenix.

Chris worked at Twig Bakery for many years and formed fast friends there. In summers he installed irrigation systems with his friend and mentor Brad Jeske. At the time of his death he was working as a correctional deputy at the Dakota County Sheriff ’s Office. Chris took on many special assignments, including Use of Force instructor, Special Response Team member, field training officer, Taser instructor, Honor Guard member, and was recently promoted to sergeant. Chris received many commendations during his employment, including Correctional Deputy of the Year in 2013.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Connie Steel. He is survived by his parents, Paula (John) Sundet Wolf; father, James Nelson Steel; sisters, Anna Steel and Gina (Frank) Courtois; nieces and nephews, Joe, Chris, Keanna, Isaiah, Jeron, and Jocelyn; grandparents, Hazel Ford, and Arvid (Kim) Sundet; also by many friends.

Memorial service was held Dec. 21, 2017 at the Grace Lutheran Church, 7800 150th St. W., Apple Valley, with an honor guard tribute from the Dakota County Sheriff ’s Department. Memorials will be donated to the Minnesota Law Enforcement Memorial Association (LEMA).
