Chris Silver will perform at the Gunflint Tavern at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 14.
Best known as an award-winning flatpick guitar and mandolin player, Silver is frequently heard at festivals, theaters, clubs and radio shows throughout the country. Formerly of the band Stoney Lonesome and the Kate Mackenzie Band, Silver has taken his roots and Americana music to new levels.
His original songs reflect a life that has brought challenges and incredible rewards. After a leukemia diagnosis in 2007, Silver went on to record his latest album Everything Can Wait. On iTunes, the CD is described as county-western, but that is hardly fitting. His upbeat recording is better described as rocking bluegrass with a hint of the blues. A very enjoyable listen—and one that make the listener want to hear Silver in concert.
According to reviewers, no two Chris Silver Band performances are the same. The arrangements of his music leave room for lots of improvisation, creating exciting musical conversations among the band members.
Two of Silver’s CDs, Souls and Spirits and Over Time, have been nominated for Minnesota Music Awards. In 2008, Silver won the Minnesota flatpick guitar championship at the Minnesota State Fair.
