Chmelik and Jones medal at state History Day competition

Cook County Middle School eighth graders Joey Chmelik and Alex Jones had reason to celebrate after their presentation to the judges at the University of Minnesota History Day competition on Saturday, May 1. The duo, who presented The Camera: Changing How People
View the World,
received honorable mention in the competition which saw 3,500-plus entrants.

Also entering the contest were Jessica Berg- Collman and Megan Lehto.

History teacher Dorie Carlson said they all worked very hard, but added that Alex and Joey worked with her during lunch for two months to get all their information and their display to state level. She was delighted that they were called up on stage to accept their medals. “I am so proud of them,” said Carlson.
