Children’s totem pole project at GM library March 9

The Grand Marais Public Library invites children and their caretakers to create their own totem pole of clay with Creativity Tank at the library at 10 a.m. March 9.

The Creativity Tank Studio, run by artist Staci Taylor, will work with children to tell their life stories in clay totems while learning the theories behind these sculptures. Totem poles are historically associated with the indigenous people of the Pacific Northwest coast. The meanings of totem poles vary reflecting legends, family, or notable events.

The project provides great small muscle work and stimulates the imagination.

Children of any age can engage in this project. Admission to the event is free thanks to sponsorship by the Arrowhead Library System and funding by money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Call the local library at (218) 387- 1140.
