Grand Portage Community Center will be hosting a children’s art exhibit on Dec. 12 from 3:15 to 5 p.m. The exhibition is a result of an eight-week 2013 summer scholarship program in which three Grand Portage children worked with local Art Therapist Belle Janicek.
The exhibition features young artists Angel Burnett, Niimin LeGarde and Rhonnie Poyirier, who will each display a number of paintings and drawings. In addition to this program, Janicek worked this past summer with children participating in the Grand Portage Summer Youth Program to create a mural that reflects the children’s vision of the beauty of Grand Portage. The mural is hanging at the center as an ongoing display and can also been seen at the exhibition.
Program coordinators thank Patty Nordahl, Grand Portage Reservation Tribal Council Programs, Berta Bauer and First and Second Thrift Store for their generous donations of time, materials, funding and effort to make these programs a successful and fun experience for the children.
