This is a perspective on the recently-held Cook County Social Justice Conference of 2018… from a parent volunteer who had the privilege to participate in the elementary school portion of March 9th’s activities.
No matter what we called such an event, it was clear to me that the students of Sawtooth Mountain Elementary were treated to a delightfully creative, thought-provoking experience. I saw nothing but smiles, joy, and kindness… as well as enlightening, constructive conversations amongst them. And I want to say thank you to all who made that day happen.
Thanks to the staff at ISD 166 for working so hard to prepare and implement the day’s programming. The teachers and staff consistently continue to do right by our kids. They insure—on a daily basis— that they are doing their best to inspire and encourage our community’s youth to grow into responsible and engaging members of this world. They really shined that day and I am ever grateful for all that they do.
I am also thankful for all of the other volunteers who helped to make the day go smoothly, both parents and other community members and businesses who contributed their time and their generous donations of supplies, food, and money. It was an honor to work beside them.
Thank you all!
