The Gunflint Trail Historical Society is among 40 organizations in 27 counties which received grants from the Minnesota Historical Society this year. The award, $4,733, is designated for conversion of Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center history films to DVD.
Dozens of organizations across the state continue to build Minnesota’s cultural and historic legacy with grant funds for history and historic preservation project of enduring value. The Society also announced the next deadline for Fast Track Grant Applications is June 15, 2012. In addition, the required, pre-application deadline for Mid-Size and Large Grants for fiscal year 2013 is fast approaching on June 1, 2012. The grants manual is available at www.mnhs.org/legacygrants with all applications being accepted only through the Society’s new grants portal at grants.mnhs.org.
The Society received a 2011 legislative appropriation to award a total of $10.5 million in Historical and Cultural Heritage Grants during the 2012 and 2013 fiscal years. The grants provide an unprecedented opportunity for nonprofit and educational organizations, government units and tribal organizations to preserve and share the state’s history and cultural heritage.
Grants are available for history and historic preservation projects in three tiers: Small or Structured Grants of $7,000 or less; Mid-Size Grants between $7,001 and $50,000; and Large Grants of more than $50,000.
