Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center is now open for the 2017 season, with some new exhibits added for its eighth summer.
Inside the Nature Center building are six different stations to give information to visitors about the nature that is found along the Gunflint Trail. Stop in to meet the Nature Center’s program director, Jacqueline Mallinson.
One new exhibit this summer commemorates the 10th anniversary of the Ham Lake fire, which burned 75,851 acres – 36,433 in Minnesota and 39,408 in Ontario, Canada. A panel designed by Split Rock Studios displays the fire progression map and photographs.
Chik-Wauk Museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily; the Nature Center is open between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily.
Starting Tuesday, June 27 there will be a free kids day at the Nature Center. This free day for kids will run every Tuesday until Aug. 22.
The center, located at 28 Moose Pond Drive, is 55 miles up the Gunflint Trail. It is the first and only museum representing the history of the Gunflint Trail.
