The long back and forth drive to Duluth for some cancer patients might be coming to an end, at least when it comes to getting chemotherapy treatments.
Chemotherapy infusions are scheduled to begin November 19 at North Shore Health. Nurses that will administer the treatments are being trained at St. Luke’s hospital in Duluth.
North Shore Administrator Kimber Wraalstad said the program would begin slowly and proceed with caution and consideration, “as to every individual patient’s case.”
Shannon Shape, the North Shore Health clinical nurse manager and interim director of nursing, will soon reach out to patients who have asked about these services. She will evaluate their current needs and see if they are an appropriate candidate to receive infusions at North Shore Health.
“We are excited to expand our services to the community,” said Wraalstad.
