Fall colors in Cook County can’t be beat, and the annual color change is under way. Now there is a new webcam on Lutsen Mountains that will help visitors track fall colors in real time, so they can plan their trips accordingly.

“The camera is a spectacular way to view the change of seasons on the North Shore,” says Jim Vick, marketing director for Lutsen Mountains. “Viewers can watch as the canopy evolves from the brilliant reds and orange of maples in late September to the shimmering gold of birch in early October.”

The new webcam displays a 100-mile view over Lake Superior and the Sawtooth Mountain ridgeline, capturing high resolution still images every 10 minutes, which will be archived to track changes day to day, week to week, year to year.

The panoramic high definition webcam is made by PanoAlpin, a Swiss company that supplies ski resorts around the world. With features including an archive of favorites, e-postcards, screensaver and a weather app, the camera is sure to be a hit with visitors longing to connect with Lake Superior and the North Shore.
