Kelly Shepard of North Shore Outdoor, a charter fishing captain and bear guide, grew up in Cook County, learning how to hunt, fish and enjoy time on the water at an early age. He feels fortunate to have had that experience and he wants to share it with the community. “I’ve been thinking about this for awhile,” Shepard told the Cook County News-Herald. “I want to do something to give back to this community.”
To do that, Shepard, along with a number of local business sponsors, is hosting “Weekend on the Water” on May 5 – 6, 2012.
Captain Shepard is inviting families on a take-a-kid fishing charter. The charters are for two hours and they are free. Shepard told Cook County News-Herald readers, “All you need is a fishing license and a trout stamp.”
Shepard is also offering free scenic cruises for senior citizens. The charter leaves from the Grand Marais harbor and will give community members the opportunity to see the town of Grand Marais and the lakeshore from a different, scenic, perspective.
