Charlotte Elizabeth Eidnes Hart was born June 28, 1923, in Woodville, Wisconsin and passed away on March 15, 2017, in Bellevue, Washington.
She was born to Rev. Carl G. Eidnes and Rena Berthine Larsen Eidnes, the fourth of five children. She was days old when baptized by her father.
For almost 58 years, she was married to Paul William (Bill) Hart who passed away in March 2005.
Her parents and four siblings – Alpha, Ruth, Sally, and Carl – predeceased her.
Charlotte is survived by her children, Karen Hart of Bellevue, Washington; Cheryl Hart (Tom Becker) of Indio, California; Richard Hart (Robin) of La Quinta, California; and Julie Hart-McConnell (Tom) of Bellevue, Washington. She is also survived by grandchildren Cara Bartel (Zack), Matthew Hart, Jenna Hart and two great-grandchildren along with several nieces, a nephew, and their families.
Charlotte’s family moved to Minnesota when her father received a new parish call; her father died when she was a child so Mrs. Eidnes, Charlotte, and Carl moved to Grand Marais to live with her grandparents, Andrew and Anne Larsen. Charlotte was confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church (Rev. Eidnes was the first called minister of Bethlehem) and graduated from Cook County High School, both in Grand Marais; she was an excellent piano and flute player. She then attended the University of Minnesota (played flute in the concert band) studying business.
She joined the WAVES (U.S. Navy) in 1943 during World War II; she was stationed in New York City. On VE Day she was among the throngs of people celebrating in Times Square. Charlotte was very patriotic and proud to have served her country during World War II.
After the war, she returned to Minneapolis, met her husband Bill, and started a family. She also began a life of volunteering with the church, community, civic organizations. This began in Minnesota but continued after the family moved to Bellevue, Washington in September 1962.
Family meant everything to Charlotte. She showered her family with love, attention, and good cooking/baking. The cookie jar was always full of homemade cookies.
Charlotte’s family loves her, will miss her, but knows she is home with God; she’s saving a space in the church pew for us!
