Charles Jon Fairchild, “Chuck,” of Grand Marais died March 26, 2013.
Chuck was born May 16, 1935 just outside of Sundance, Wyoming. He grew up in Ogallala, Nebraska.
Chuck was a small plane pilot and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He was proud of his service during the Korean War.
He owned his own trucking business for many years and moved to Grand Portage after retiring in the late ‘90s. He first made his home on Hat Point. He loved wildlife and he had many animals that he called by name that would eat out of his hand.
He later moved to Grand Marais, but enjoyed riding the Arrowhead Transit bus to the casino often. He loved the country band Portage. He loved having meals with friends.
Chuck was very mechanical and could fix anything, frequently figuring out a problem after many others had tried. He was strongly opinionated and would like you to know exactly what he thought.
He is survived by his special friend, Helene Smith. He will be dearly missed by his close friends.
A memorial potluck will be held at the Cook County Senior Center on Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m.
