Chamber seeking a new board member

The Cook County Chamber is seeking someone to fill a vacancy on the Chamber board. Jean Spry, formerly of Joynes Department Store, has taken a new job and resigned her board position. There is one year left on her three-year appointment. We are seeking applications from people interested in filling that seat for the next year. A possibility exists of reappointment to subsequent terms.

The Chamber board seeks to maintain balanced representation that ensures all areas of the county and most sectors of the economy are represented. The vacant seat has been identified as one to be filled from the retail community, so applicants from retail will receive preference. The board normally has 15 members.

The mission of the Cook County Chamber of Commerce is to be the representative voice of county for-profit and non-profit businesses in working to improve the county economy and to address pressing county socioeconomic issues.

The board meets about six times per year. A good deal of the Chamber’s attention is focused on the workings of the state Legislature and the Cook County Board. All board members are expected to stay abreast of activities of both the county and state governments.

Anyone interested in applying to fill the existing board vacancy should write to Board Chair Karen Blackburn at director@mycche.org. In your email, please provide information on who you are, where you live and what you do, plus a detailed explanation for why you would like to join the Chamber board and what you would hope to accomplish.
