A Grand Marais man escaped injury Oct. 19 when the cement truck he was driving tipped over at the intersection of County Road 7 and Highway 61 in Grand Marais.
Craig Waver, 60, was traveling westbound on County Road 7 in a 2004 International cement truck carrying about a yard of cement (approximately 3,500 pounds).
Waver told Cook County sheriff deputies that he saw that a squad car had a vehicle pulled over on the side of Highway 61. As he looked at the squad car, he set down his sandwich and the truck got sucked into the ditch, tipping it on its side.
A towing company from Duluth was called to remove the truck from the ditch. Minnesota State Patrol and Cook County sheriff deputies provided traffic control.
Waver was not injured. He was cited for inattentive driving and driving without a valid license for vehicle class or type. He was fined $230.
