Upper left: American Legion Post 413 Color Guard, followed by the Legion Auxiliary, led the small parade through Grand Marais. The Legion and Auxiliary won the award for “Most Patriotic.” Upper right: WTIP community radio celebrated Independence Day and its 12 years on air by marching in the Tofte and Grand Marais parades. Lower left: Cook County School District 166 won the award for “Cutest Kids.”

Left: On a float “As American As Apple Pie,” apple-capped parade participants tossed apple fruit bars, cups of applesauce, and real apples—except for this little girl who decided to have a snack. Right: Katrina Evans of St. Paul checks out the fish-shaped potholders created by Iola Wotisciak of Grand Marais. Iola donates 100% of the money made on her unique potholders to the Birch Grove Community School lunch program. Before the 4th of July celebration, Iola had already raised $500 for the school.
