Celebrate the Big Lake July 17

The world’s largest freshwater lake has its own day! Lake Superior Day is Sunday, July 17. What can you do to symbolize your own connection to the lake that day?

Lake Superior Day was started in the early 1990s to highlight the importance of this great water body to the basin’s environment and economy. The Lake Superior Binational Forum promotes Lake Superior Day to highlight the special connections people have to our unique world treasure.

Groups are encouraged to hold activities or events that celebrate life on the lake. A forum on the website (superiorforum.org) will promote your event or activity on our web calendar at no cost. Last year about 50 groups and communities participated in some way, including special events such as dragon boat races, beach clean ups, concerts, library displays, church services, and signed proclamations designating the third Sunday in July as Lake Superior Day.

Check the forum’s website for ideas about how the day was celebrated last year and what you can do to celebrate. New information is posted regularly. Or contact us at lakesuperiorday@northland.edu; (888) 301-LAKE.
