Annually St. Catherine University hosts an Honors and Awards Ceremony where special recognition is given to students with high academic achievements.

At this year’s award ceremony Cecelia Olsen was awarded the Sister Mary Madonna Ashton Scholarship.

Ashton is a leader in the healthcare field. In 1983 she was appointed as the commissioner of health after working 20 years as the president of St. Mary’s Hospital. She was the first nun, woman and first non-physician appointed to this position. Along with her success in the health field she has also been quite influential in supporting student academic achievement at St. Catherine University.

The scholarship is awarded to the St. Catherine University student who has the highest GPA in the healthcare field and who displays strong leadership skills along with extra-curricular activities.

Cecelia is currently majoring in public health at the university and has just finished her second year. Through the two years, she has held a GPA of 3.97 and enjoys being involved in campus activities such as tutoring and a buddy program. Cecelia plans to return to the university in the fall to continue pursuing her public health degree.

Cecelia is the daughter of Brian and Marcy Olsen and granddaughter of June Olsen and Mike and Dolly Quaife.
