Cook County Local Energy Project (CCLEP) will host three solar events in September as part of the Solar Initiative Project.
At 7 p.m. Sept. 8, a solar photovoltaic (PV) workshop will be given at North House Folk School. This workshop is designed to help Cook County landowners learn how solar PV works and what type of installation would work best for their particular situation. There will be a short presentation based on Going Solar: A Cook County Guide followed by time for questions and answers with solar experts.
A solar tour in the Hovland area that includes both grid-connected and stand-alone systems follows on Sept. 12. Owners will have data about their systems and can talk about what’s it like to live with an on-site solar PV system. The tour begins at 9 a.m. at the Hovland Town Hall.
Later in September, on Tuesday the 22nd, there will be a “Solar Get Together” at the Community Center. This gathering is a chance for solar owners (current and future) to swap information and talk solar. Those with experience can share information and solutions with those starting out and considering buying a PV system. This gathering kicks off with a potluck at 6 p.m. followed by a panel discussion and informal discussion time. Those interested in being on the panel are asked to contact CCLEP coordinator Virginia Danfelt, at localenergy@boreal.org.
CCLEP’s “Going Solar: A Cook County Guide” booklet is available at the CCLEP website, cookcountylocalenergy.org or for checkout at the Grand Marais Public Library.
CCLEP’s Solar Initiative Project is influenced by the 30 percent federal tax credit that is available until the end of 2016. Cook County landowners interested in solar should consider options now and take advantage of this opportunity. Events are free and open to everyone with an interest. Funding for this project is from the Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation.
