CCHS to hold a graduation parade through town

There won’t be the usual high school graduation ceremony this year. Instead, seniors will receive their diplomas in the gym with their parents or guardians, but without the fanfare of a large audience in attendance to watch.

Much of the usual graduation “pomp and circumstance” will be dashed due to the coronavirus situation.

However, that doesn’t mean there won’t be a celebration. There will, but it will be different.

On Saturday, May 30, a parade will be held through town. It will start at approximately 4:30 p.m. and take 15 to 30 minutes and finish at Artists’ Point. Because the public cannot attend the graduation ceremony, it is hoped that people will stand outside on their lawns and cheer as the students pass by.

Upon arriving at Artists’ Point, vehicles will park in a huge circle and graduates will step in front of their family vehicles and face each other in that circle. At that point graduates will be asked to move their tassels from the right to the left and that will conclude the graduation ceremony.

Assistant Principal Mitch Dorr said it is hoped that a drone can take a class picture and “memorialize this moment in Cook County’s history.”
