Three Cook County skiers, Halle Lamb, Masen McKeever, and Ray Dressley, attended the 2020 MSHSL State Alpine Championship meet held at Giants Ridge on Wednesday, February 12.

The weather threw a little bit of everything at the skiers, said CCHS/Silver Bay Coach Charles Lamb, “The day started out cold and windy, then it got sunny, and then it snowed. But it always stayed windy, and the temperature dropped to zero later in the day.”

CCHS senior Masen McKeever led all Northland boys by placing 25th in a very competitive field.

Masen’s combined time was 1:16:91 (minutes: seconds: hundredths of seconds) down the Innsbruck and Helsinki slalom courses.

Ray Dressley, an eighth-grader, also had an outstanding race. Ray placed 42nd in a field of 88 with a time of 1:19:68.

Luke Conway of Minneapolis Washburn won the boys’ race with a combined time of 1:10:44. Luke won by eight-tenths of a second, which is a substantial margin of victory in skiing where hundredths of seconds are often the margin of victory.

CCHS senior Halle Lamb was the second Northland girl finisher, placing 30th out of a field of 88 racers. Her two-race combined time was 1:23:24. Duluth East sophomore Lauren Carlson led all northland girls with a 10th place finish.

Sophia Palmquist was the girls’ state champion with a finish time of 1:14:25. The sophomore from Eagan beat Lakeville North’s Peyton Servais by 27-hundredths of a second to take the title.

Lakeville South won the boys’ team title, and Lakeville North won the girls’ crown.

As for the kids from Cook County, Coach Lamb said, “I’m really proud of our skiers. They all skied well. It was a great way to end our season.”
