Mountain ash berries – chipmunks – stormy water – and Sawtooth ridges: senior students at Cook County High School have captured images of nature to enhance the sale of books they are making to support their Senior Show. The proceeds from the students’ sale of books help to fund their individual Senior Books.

Throughout the year, the seniors work on personal writings and photographs to include in their Senior Books. Before graduation the seniors each sign and create a book to reflect their individual personalities and to honor the people, places, and events that have inspired them.

Teaching the art of book craft is local book artist Karen Smaby, with the help of volunteers Susan Robinson, Linda Ottis, Penny Ortmann, and Fran Koscielak.

Designed to be used as guest books, journals, or memory books, the hand-size books are blank except for the covers. The outside covers feature eye-catching designs while the inside covers feature the students’ photographs of spectacular scenes in Cook County. No two books are alike. Every book is created by many students.

Local businesses that will offer the books for sale this fall include Java Moose and Northern Hi-lites Salon. They will also be available at Lake Superior Trading Post and Betsy Bowen’s Studio during the holiday season.

Each gift book is priced at $20. An assortment of the unique books is also available at the Cook County High School office and will be available at the holiday band concert.
