Cook County High School is seeking to raise funds to purchase strength and conditioning equipment for use by Cook County athletics and the I.S.D. 166 physical education department.
The current weight room is rather anemic and in need of a huge upgrade.
Needed are power racks, barbells, hex-bars, resistance bands, bumper plates, storage equipment for organizing, and bands and weights along the walls of the weight room.
Funds will be raised by seeking sponsorships from local businesses as well as families or individuals. These dollars would be used to purchase more comprehensive equipment in order to develop a summer strength and conditioning program for Cook County athletes and students grades 6-12, as well as provide opportunities for year-round training during and between their seasons and through the offering of fitness-focused physical education classes offered through Cook County Physical Education Department. This would include adding a fitness unit to all junior high and high school P.E. classes and the possibility of a Fitness & Wellness class with a significant emphasis on strength training.
There is a need for a more developed strength and conditioning program for students and athletes. The purchase of this equipment would not only be intended to benefit athletes or a specific sport; programming in the summer as well as during physical education classes would be geared towards overall fitness development and confidence. While there is currently a YMCA, the current weight room is not outfitted to accommodate an entire team or class at one time. The YMCA is a community-focused facility that is not conducive to a whole class or team using the weight room at once.
A four-year sponsorship program is now underway. One initial donation will cover the sponsorship for four years. In addition, sponsorship banners will hang in the gymnasium during the 2023-24, 2024-25, 2025-26, and 2026-27 years.
Four tiers of sponsorships are available.
Community level ($1 to $499). Community-level sponsorships will be recognized locally for their contribution to the program.
Silver level ($500 to $999). Silver-level sponsorships will have their business, family name, or individual name on a banner on the north wall of the gymnasium. The banner will have the names listed in a vertical orientation with one name per line. The banner will have a black background with silver lettering.
Blue level ($1,000 to $2,499). Blue-level sponsors will have their business, family name, or individual name on a banner hung on the gymnasium’s south wall. The banner will have names listed in a vertical orientation with one name per line, but the font will be twice the size of that of the silver level. At the end of the program, plaques will be created for each sponsor and presented to be displayed in their business or home.
Viking level ($2,500) Viking-level sponsors will have individual banners printed with the company/organization logo, family, or personal name. In addition, the banners will have blue backgrounds saying, “Viking Sponsor.” After the sponsorship cycle ends (4 years), banners would be given to sponsors to hang at their business or home.
