Redefining the Road, the official magazine of the Women in Trucking Association recently featured career professional driver Margaret “Maggie” Peterson, on its pages. Peterson is a charter member of the Women in Trucking Association. She served on the association’s board of directors from 2007- 2011.
Women in Trucking was established in 2005 to encourage the employment of women in the trucking industry, promote their accomplishments and minimize obstacles faced by women working in the trucking industry.
In the spring 2012 issue of Redefining the Road, Peterson is spotlighted in her new role as a board member of the Women in Trucking Foundation. The purpose of the foundation is to expand and facilitate growth and educational opportunities for our nation’s trucking industry.
Peterson is now a driver with Walmart Private Fleet, living in Hesperia, California. She came to that position after retiring from YRCW after 27 years of line haul service. During her career, Peterson achieved the honor of being the first woman to be named “Driver of the Month” by the California Trucking Association—a feat repeated a few years later.
According to her biography in Redefining the Road, Peterson was also a member of Roadway’s Road Team and served as captain of America’s Road Team (American Trucking Associations) in 1998. She has been called on to speak as an industry spokesperson, appearing on national news programs such as Dateline and NBC Nightly News and on the Oxygen Network and MSNBC. She has also served as an advisor or been a member of a number of government and industry policymaking entities.
Margaret is a 1974 Cook County High School graduate. She is the daughter of Lawrence and Dorothy Peterson of Hovland.
