CCHS graduate best choice for golf course manager

Todd Gervais is a CCHS graduate who went to college for golf course management. He has worked summers at the EDA’s golf course, Superior National at Lutsen (SNL), since he was 13. During college and after, his winters were spent in Arizona working high-end golf courses, some nationally known. He is ready to go, with many years working in the field, and comes with high recommendations.

Todd moved home four years ago and teamed up with his mom to run North Shore Dairy. Todd’s been instrumental in making many changes at the dairy to keep it profitable in today’s changing economic environment and has made a difference. Yet, he would still love to chase his dream — golf!

Todd applied for the new EDA golf course manager position at SNL but was passed over. After all the talk of hiring a manager from the golf industry, ironically we may end up with Bob Fenwick, who has zero experience. The fact that the EDA didn’t advertise the position outside Cook County begs the question: Were they just throwing Bob Fenwick a bone?

One of our community’s largest problems is not having good jobs to retain our youth. This is a great opportunity missed! We should be taking risks to give our youth a chance to prove themselves.

This was a life-changing decision for Gervais, who spent his lifetime preparing for this job. Tell me he got a fair shake! It’s the “good ol’ boys club” in full force and it could be your child!

Gervais could use your help but he won’t ask. If you help him you will be standing up for every past, present and future graduate of CCHS and you’ll be doing the right thing where your elected officials failed.

The next EDA meeting is Tuesday, April 12, at 3 p.m. at Grand Marais City Hall and consideration of golf course director appointment is on the agenda. Todd Gervais, along with all CCHS graduates, could use a show of support at this meeting in body or in letter form. Letters can be sent to the EDA at P.O. Box 597, Grand Marais, MN, 55604, attention Mike Littfin, or e-mailed to EDAmatt@boreal.org.

Also, call your city councilor and county commissioner. We need a large response to make a difference! Please make the effort.
