In an interesting twist of the “It’s a small world” adage, two Cook County High School graduates recently ran into each other. Not in the airport, but in an airplane, in the course of their daily duties.

Mark Heizler, a 1977 CCHS graduate, is now an American Airlines captain based at Chicago O’Hare. He flies on the Boeing 757 and 767. He was flying from Los Angeles to Miami when he recognized one of the flight attendants working on that flight—Elizabeth Erickson Strain.

Strain is a 1980 CCHS grad. She is based in Miami, Florida so it is remarkable that their paths crossed. The two managed a quick photo together, and then Heizler was off again, piloting another flight to Vail, Colorado.

However, Heizler shared the picture with his friend, former Grand Marais City Clerk Gary Brumberg of Silver Bay, who thought it would be fun for Cook County News-Herald readers to see that two CCHS grads had done well in their careers.
