The Cook County High School Band is preparing and fundraising for a 2012 spring trip to Memphis and Orlando. One of the ways they are preparing is, of course, by playing. The band gave a stellar performance at Minnesota State High School League State Band Festival on Friday, April 29.

The band performed On an American Spiritual by David Holsinger and The Inferno by Robert W. Smith. The Viking band received a rating of Superior.

Jordyn Kirk (Tenor Sax) and Katrina Axtell (Flute) also competed in the Solo/ Ensemble competition. Both girls received Superior ratings.

“It went exceptionally well,” said Jordyn Kirk.

The band will be performing at a black tie fundraiser on Friday, May 20 at the banquet hall at Grand Portage Lodge and Casino. Talk to a band student or Band Director Kerri Bilben for tickets. The evening includes a five-course dinner, music by the band and music by Arden Bruyere.

And the final band concert of the year is set for Thursday, May 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the varsity gym at the high school.
