Despite putting up ten runs, the Vikings didn’t have enough offense to beat Northeast Range on May 20 in a game played in Soudan, and the Vikings lost 15-10.
Neither team scored in the first and the game was tied at one after the second inning concluded. Babbitt took its first lead 4-3 at the end of the third inning.
The Vikings led briefly 7-5 after batting in the top of the fourth. Hunter Gomez doubled to score Issac Sandstrom and J Shannon in that inning. However, Babbitt put up ten runs in the bottom of the fourth, and the Vikings could never catch up.
Cook County ended with 13 hits. Northeast Range had 15. Northeast Range ended with five errors and the Vikings had three.
One very bright spot, Kole Anderson has been extending his hitting range lately. The slugger sent one ball far over the fence in the sixth inning for his second home run in the last week.
Isaac Sandstrom started on the mound for the Vikings. Isaac allowed seven runs on eight hits over three and one-third innings. He struck out four.
The Vikings ended with 13 hits. Kole Anderson, Paul Dorr, J Shannon, and Jacob Dorr all had multiple hits in the game. Anderson led all Viking batters with three hits.
Northeast Range pitchers struck out eight Viking hitters and gave up two bases on balls. The Vikings pitchers struck out seven and walked seven. All told, the Vikings sent five pitchers to the mound, Sandstrom, Cy Oberholtzer, Amos Falter, Benelli Myers and Hunter Gomez.
The Vikings finished with three errors, while Northeast Range had five.
