At its January 19 meeting the School District 166 school board approved preliminary plans for the band to take a trip to Florida and Memphis over the 2012 spring break.
Parents and the students will raise all expenses.
Cook County High School band director Kerri Bilben said the six day/five night motor coach tour would include stops at Graceland, Sun Studios and the Gibson Guitar Factory while in Memphis and stops at Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Hard Rock Café/ Planet Hollywood and several other locations while in Florida.
At Disney, the band will hopefully perform at Magic Music Days, but they will have to be selected for this honor. Bands are picked based upon a short rehearsal, and it is a badge of honor to record inside Walt Disney Studios, said Bilben.
The band will also receive private clinic/ workshops at a major college or university.
Bilben hopes it is possible to travel out of state every four years so that all of her musicians get to take one big trip while participating in band. The school board, superintendent and high school principal were in agreement with Bilben on the trip and plans for future trips.
