The Cook County High School One Act Play was performed before an appreciative crowd at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts on Thursday, January 29. The audience loved the delightful comedy, We Loathe Our Customers! by Bradley Walton.

Watching the two office supply store clerks forced to be “nice” to the customers when they really didn’t want to be brought laughter to all, but especially the people who have worked with customers.

The engaging cast of Cook County High School performers was Sam Kern, Andy Kern, Erica Marxen, Mikala Schliep, Bryn Soland, Hannah Vander Heiden and Stage manager Josie Freeberg. The play was directed by Sue Hennessy.

CCHS took the One Act on the road to Two Harbors Saturday, January 31 to compete in the Subsections contest of the Minnesota High School League One Act contest. CCHS competed against seven other schools.

Director Hennessy said, “They did a fantastic performance but did not place in the top two slots so they will not continue on. I am very grateful for the opportunity to have worked with this group of very talented students. I was very proud of them today and they were fabulous representatives of Cook County High School! Bravo!”

Hennessy added special thanks to senior Mikala Schliep. Hennessy said, “Thank you for sharing your talent and laughter with us! You will be missed and we wish you all the best!”

Hennessy also gave special thanks to Jane Gellner, Jeff Kern and Ralph Larsen for their assistance with this show.

Another sales clerk (Mikala Schliep) is a little bit nervous dealing with a neurotic customer (Bryn Soland) obsessed with paper and pencils. Did you know pencils could be used as weapons?
