With a strong wind blowing in, it was a pitcher’s night at the Arleigh Jorgenson field last Thursday evening. At least it was pitcher’s night for the Vikings who shut out International Falls 7-0.
Two Viking pitchers combined to throw the shutout. Tate Crawford got the win on the mound. Tate started and threw five and one third innings. He gave up six hits, and no runs. Patrick Pierre came in and threw two-and-two third innings of relief out of the bullpen. Patrick struck out one and walked one and didn’t give up a hit or a run.
The Vikings took a 1-0 lead in the second when Jacob Carpenter walked and ended up stealing home.
Cody Joslyn took the loss on the mound for International Falls. Cody pitched four innings, allowing six runs off of five hits. He struck out six and walked five. Parker Sivonen came in out of the bullpen for Cody and pitched two innings. Parker gave up two hits and two runs, striking out one and walking one.
Cook County/Silver Bay scored three runs in the fourth inning. Both Jake Stadler and Hunter Gomez pushed runs across the plate with timely hits.
Stadler led Viking batters by going 3-4 at the plate. Hunter Gomez and Amos Falter each had two hits and Jake Stadler had one hit.
Both teams walked six times. The Vikings made on error while International Falls ended with three.
