The Vikings had to let the tough loss to Aurora go and take the field later on Saturday to face North Shore rival Two Harbors. The winner would advance in the playoffs and the season would end for the other team and boy oh boy was this game close. Cook County/Silver Bay scored three runs in the seventh and hung on to beat their rivals 7-4.
The Vikings took the lead for good in the seventh inning when Hunter Gomez singled on a two-two count to drive in a run.
CC/SB scored one run in the third to take a short-lived lead. Two Harbors came back and plated two runs in the fourth to lead two to one. The Vikings pushed three runs across the plate in the top of the fifth, but the Agates tied the game up with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Neither team scored in the sixth which brought up the big seventh inning. The Vikings bats came alive while the Agates offense was held in check and the Vikings got a big playoff win and advanced to a Sunday game. The Vikings lost earlier in the day to Aurora, so they are playing through the loser’s bracket. Any loss from now on will see their playoff run end.
The away game was played Saturday, July 16.
The Vikings ended with eight hits while Two Harbors had seven. One big difference however was in errors. The Vikings fielded the ball cleanly while the Agates made seven error.
Jacob Carpenter led the Vikings on the mound and at the plate. Jacob pitched a complete game, giving up four runs off of seven hits and striking out eight and walking one.
Jacob led the offense by going three for five at the plate and driving in three RBIs. Hunter Gomez had two hits and one RBI, J Shannon had one hit and one RBI. Amos Falter and Patrick Pierre each had a hit in the game.
Braylen Hoff took the loss for Two Harbors. Braylen threw two innings in relief and gave up three runs on four hits. He struck out three and walked one.
