CC/SB Senior Babe Ruth Baseball team advances

After falling to Esko in the first game of the Eighth District Senior Babe Ruth (American Legion) 2020 Division ll District tournament, the Number 7 seed Cook County/Silver Bay team was knocked into the loser bracket.

Two wins later, one over Number 3 seed Proctor and a victory over Number 6 seed Aurora, and CC/SB is one of four teams left. The good news for CC/SB is that the bracket resets for the final games. Win or lose, the team will play a game on Saturday, August 8 in Aurora.

CC/SB Senior Babe Ruth take win over Aurora

It was either win or go home on Sunday, August 2, and the Cook County/ Silver Bay baseball team was on top of their game as they took a win over a higher seeded opponent, Aurora, 16-3.

Lucas Stadler led the way with eight RBI’s. Lucas’ bat did all of the damage in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. His fourth inning ground-out brought two CC/SB runners across the plate and then his double in the fifth brought in two more. Stadler capped off his big night with a sixth inning grand slam. He ended with three hits in five plate appearances.

Cook County/Silver Bay got off to a fast start, scoring four runs in the first inning. Neither team scored again until the fourth, when CC/SB added two more runs and Aurora got its first run. A four run fifth and six run sixth caused the game to end because of the ten run rule. Aurora added two runs in the sixth but it was too little too late.

Andrew Miller was the winning pitcher. Andrew pitched six innings, allowing three hits while striking out six and giving up three runs.

Aurora’s Hayden Soular was the losing pitcher. Hayden gave up two hits and four runs while striking out three in one inning.

Cook County/Silver Bay ended with seven hits and Aurora three. DJ Seidel had one hit and one RBI; Isaiah Deschampe finished with one hit and two RBI’s; Joe Deschampe had one hit and one RBI; Patrick Pierre was one for two at the plate with two RBI’s and Timmy Perfetto ended with two RBI’s and scored three times although he was hitless, walking twice and driving in runs on ground-outs.

Cole Meyer was two for two at the plate to lead Aurora.

Next up is Ely at Ely on Thursday, August 6.

On Thursday CC/SB travels to Ely to face Ely at 7:30 p.m. Esko will play Eveleth and the winners of the two games meet to decide who goes to state.
