It took a while, but the Cook County/Silver Bay Legion baseball team got their offense fired up and ran away with a 7-2 victory over the International Fall Junior Legion baseball team.
The away game was played on July 24 in Proctor.
The Vikings scored first on a Hunter Gomez ground out which drove in a run, and the team led 1-0 after one inning of play.
Neither team score in the second but the Falls came up with two runs in the third to lead 2-1 going into fourth. In the top of the fourth the Viking’s scored on a Hunter Rex sacrifice fly and Jake Mixdorf hit a single after working the count to 3-2, which drove in a run. The Viking shut out the Falls in the bottom of the fourth. Now leading 3-2, the Vikings never looked back.
The Vikings tacked on another run in the fifth. Neither team scored in the sixth but in the seventh and last inning the Vikings closed out the game with three runs off of a double by Ethan Tate and a walk by Cade Smith to win 7-2.
Jake Stadler had a great day on the mound for the Vikings. Over six innings Stadler gave up two runs on three hits. He struck out five. Benelli Myers came in to relieve Stadler in the seventh. Myers didn’t allow a hit as he shut down the International Falls hitters.
Jake Olson took the loss for the ‘Falls. Jake gave up three runs on three hits over four innings, while striking out four.
The CC/SB Vikings had a good day at the plate, tallying ten hits. Benelli Meyers, Jacob Carpenter and Hunter Gomez each had two hits in the game. Jake Stadler, Hunter Rex, Jake Mixdorf and Ethan Tate each had one hit. All told, the Vikings walked seven times while the ‘Fall’s players only received two walks.
The Vikings played error free ball while the ‘Falls committed two errors.
